The name Donald Trump is all but synonymous with luxury lifestyle. It’s only fitting that the billionaire mogul should have his own series of limousines, which he did in 1988. That wasn’t his first or last headline making limo moment, but it does set him further apart from other elite businessmen.
Donald Trump Teams Up With Cadillac’s Limo Division
If you plan to put the name Trump on something it’s going to have to be top-of-the-line all the way. That’s exactly what Cadillac and Dillinger Coach Works were going for when they teamed up to create the Trump Series limousines. Of course Donald Trump had his say throughout the design phase.
It took two years and several iterations but the end product was everything Trump expected it to be. Italian leather, 100% wool carpet, rosewood panels – super-luxe was the end goal and they got it. Two models were developed, the Trump Golden Series and the Trump Executive Series.
The Trump Executive Series
This limousine was made for the businessman who wanted to seamlessly move from his office to the next location without any down time. A few of the business savvy features included were:
- Cellular phone (huge for 1988)
- Mobile fax machine
- Paper shredder
The Trump Executive Series was ahead of its time in regards to outfitting a limousine for business purposes. Supposedly, the whole idea of the Trump limousine series was born when Trump told John Grettenberger, then general manager of the Cadillac Division, that what they should make was a limo with all the assets a person could want.
The functionality packed into this limo made other luxury vehicles look lazy.
The Trump Golden Series
The Trump Golden Series is aptly named for it’s gold-plated features and gold accented tires. It had all the functionality and luxury of the Executive Series and them some. Trump himself opted for the Golden Series and got the first one off the assembly line.
When the models were unveiled at the Limousine & Chauffeur Show in Atlantic City January 1988 Trump had this to say, “You can see the kind of quality there is. We left nothing out. I’m very honored that they built me the first one and, frankly, I deserve it. I really am very honored and I would like to thank Cadillac and everyone else involved.”
Classic Trump.
