V8 Supercar Races Come to the Circuit of the Americas Racetrack

Get ready, strap in and keep your eyes on the track because the high-speed V8 Supercar races are coming to the Circuit of the Americas this May. V8 Supercars Austin 400 brings Australia’s most popular championship racing series to the U.S. for the first time ever. It’s one of only six supercar events happening outside of the continent down under.

During the course of four 100km races 28 supercars will be taking the straightaways and hairpin turns at up to 185 miles per hour. Saturday and Sunday will start with a qualifying session in the morning followed by two more races later in the day.

The challenging Circuit of the Americas racetrack is sure to create a spectacular showcase of wall-slamming, heart-thumping driving like Americans fans have never seen. Drivers, including Champion Jamie Whincup, are already geared up and setting their sights on being the first to win the V8 Supercars Austin 400 trophy.

V8 Supercar racing has been quickly catching on in countries all over the world. So much so the championship series events are now televised and broadcast in more than 130 countries. V8 Supercars CEO David Malone and Circuit of the Americas president Steven Sexton predict that the aggressive, action-packed racing will be a big hit with Texans as well as IndyCar and NASCAR fans around the country.

The race series got its official start in 1997 when the Australian Touring Car Championship was renamed V8 Supercar Championship. Aussie’s have been huge fans of touring car racing for over 50 years so the evolution into V8 racing did nothing but increase their passion for the sport.

Over the last 14 years V8 Supercar racing has exploded under the leadership of Chairman Tony Cochrane. There are now 18 teams competing in races that take place at tracks across the globe. With the American debut event this May the sport is primed to expand its audience dramatically.
